Kwilena - Noongar

The Noongar people have woven countless tales of their partnership with Kwilenas, mystical creatures believed to aid in the catching of fish. These stories recount how the Noongar and Kwilenas once fished together, particularly during the bountiful season of Djeran, known for its abundance of seafood and fish.

During the season of Djeran, the Noongar people once partnered with Kwilenas in their fishing endeavours. This collaboration extended to the rich waters near Salmon Holes, close to Albany, where the Noongar would call upon the assistance of Kwilenas during the salmon runs. Through rituals involving singing, chanting, and smacking the water with branches, the Noongar would communicate with the Kwilenas, who would then help gather fish.
